Salifu Nkonya Nurudeen, a level 100 student of Computer Science at the University for Development Studies, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Tamale High Court.
According to reports, 19-year-old Salifu Nkonya Nurudeen was sentenced to life imprisonment after killing a colleague during a dispute over a girlfriend.
The convict was facing charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder of his colleague, Wumpini Mohammed Zakiu, over a girlfriend in 2024.
Salifu Nkonya Nurudeen was found guilty of murder and conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the death of his colleague.
The deceased, Mohammed Zakiu, reportedly died on Wednesday, September 25, after being allegedly stabbed in the chest at the University campus.
Reports suggest his lifeless body was found on Thursday, September 26, on the University Campus after several attempts to reach him on the phone proved futile.
Initial reports suggest the possibility of an armed robbery, as his phone and motorcycle were missing from the scene; however, accounts from his family indicate that his valuables were found intact, raising suspicion that it may be a targeted killing rather than a robbery.
Christopher Amoako, 3FM’s Northern Regional correspondent, speaking on the issue, detailed, “The case has been in court, and today the Tamale High Court ruled on the particular case and convicted the accused to life imprisonment. It was a sad moment in court because the young man was convicted to life imprisonment.
The presiding Judge said his action was in bad taste and caused the loss of a life, and so he should go to prison for life”.
Christopher Amoako further recounted the story, “ He stabbed his colleague, who was also a student of the University for Development Studies, over issues of a girlfriend; the gentleman died in September last year. The family of the deceased called for justice when he killed the deceased.
He took the motorbike, his purse and other things. Later, those items were found on the school campus, and the convict was arrested, and today he has been sentenced to life imprisonment”.
