NPP has a fighting chance if they choose me – Kennedy Agyapong

NewsNPP has a fighting chance if they choose me – Kennedy Agyapong

Kennedy Agyapong, a former Assin Central lawmaker and NPP presidential aspirant hopeful, has said the New Patriotic Party has a fighting chance in the 2028 elections if the party chooses him as the flagbearer.

According to Kennedy Agyapong, he is the NPP’s best bet to win the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He boldly emphasised that he is going to beat the NDC hands down if voted as the NPP presidential candidate.

Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Pan African Television, Kennedy Agyapong stated, “The party has a fighting chance, but it depends on the candidate they choose. If they choose Kennedy Agyapong, they have a fighting chance; I will beat NDC hands down”.

Kennedy Agyapong further gave an insight into his plans for Ghana, “Can you imagine the tourism industry? What are we going to do? Right in the middle of the sea in Dubai, they’ve created an island”.

Kennedy Agyapong added, “Ghana is the centre of the world, and we don’t have a hotel with the name Centre of the World to attract tourists. We are going to build a hotel in the sea. It is possible. I’ve seen it work elsewhere, and therefore it is going to work”.

Kennedy Agyapong further explained why he chose to stay silent during the peak of last year’s campaign season and also discussed his decision to apologise to President Mahama for some of the criticisms he had previously made against him.

Kennedy Agyapong added, “That’s the truth, we stepped on so many toes, they show some videos about Kennedy Agyapong, he said this, he is not presidential material if they are not being diabolical, and you listen carefully, it was advice I was giving them and criticising some bad deeds of the party people.

But now they use it against me. During the campaign, I have been quiet because they wrote ten sins of Kennedy Agyapong, that’s why I apologise to President Mahama because he has been very nice to me, he loves me and everything, but because of the party, I ignore this relationship and criticise him”.

He added, “I have to be honest, I was harsh only for me when I was criticising the NDC, my party was happy, but when I decided to contest was the time they used all the things I said against me”.

Kennedy Agyapong revealed that he has become quiet because he does not want his party to have another sin added to his ten list of sins.

He revealed, “All the things I used to defend NDC became a sin, and they circle around ten sins of Kennedy Agyapong. So now I am quite my argument is that in the Bible, they have the ten Commandments, and since Abraham’s times, they have not added one to it for it to be eleven.

So, the Ten sins of Kennedy Agyapong, I will not go and say anything for you to add number eleven or twelve, that is why I am quiet”.

Meanwhile, Kennedy Agyapong previously contested in the NPP’s 2024 presidential primaries.

Mr Agyapong finished second in the Super Delegates Conference with 14.30% of the vote, behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who secured 61.47% emerging the winner.

Despite his shortcomings, Kennedy Agyapong’s strong performance demonstrated considerable support within the party.

The NPP 2026 primaries are heating up with the main front-runners for the NPP’s flagbearer position, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Minister for Agriculture Bryan Acheampong, and former Minister for Education Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum.

Kwabena Agyei Agyepong has entered the NPP’s flagbearership race. Abronye has also hinted at his desire to enter the race.
