“Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu is the worst MP in NPP history” – Owusu-Bempah claims

News"Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu is the worst MP in NPP history" - Owusu-Bempah claims

Ernest Owusu-Bempah, the Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has launched a scathing attack on former Suame Constituency Member of Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, after he described Kennedy Agyapong as a fanciful talker.

According to Ernest Owusu-Bempah, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu is the worst member of parliament in the history of the New Patriotic Party(NPP).

Ernest Owusu-Bempah highlighted that the former Suame MP is the most unpopular MP after the 2016 elections and accused him of not doing anything for his constituents.

Speaking during an interview on Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM, Ernest Owusu-Bempah stated, “Who are those saying that? Mention their names and let me reply to them, who is a fancy talker, who speaks useless English in parliament more than those who say those things. Go to his constituency, the worst parliamentarian in the history of the NPP.

We are all in Kumasi, and it got to a point where he almost lost his seat. We all know this town is the most unpopular MP after the 2016 elections. Even the NDC and Alban Bagbin came here to campaign for him, the worst MP. What has he done for his constituency?”

He added, “It is because people love the NPP that they went out to vote, not because of him. It is in the heart of the Asante Region. Don’t compare Assin Fosu to the Asante Region, which is the Suame Constituency. He was just a fortunate leader in the mix of affairs. I have not attacked him. I am not mentioning any names here.

Ghanaians should not be listening to people who have no merit in Ghanaian politics. What at all has he done apart from standing in parliament and reading hansard? What has he done for Ghanaians, and what has he done for the people of Suame?”

He further added that Kennedy Agyapong has done so many things for Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu that he knows.

Ernest Owusu-Bempah further reiterated, “Why is he so belligerent in attacking Kennedy Agyapong?  Kennedy Agyapong walks the talk. Has Kyei Mensan Bonsu been able to build a cardio-therapeutic centre at the 37 military hospital? Go to KATH, Ken Agyapong also built a whole MRI machine that patients now use for free.

Owusu Bempah further claimed, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu wants to be a running mate, which is why he is attacking Mr Agyapong.

“If it is because of the promise we are hearing, that they want to give him a running mate position, and that is why he is attacking Kennedy Agyapong, then it will fall flat on his face.

He has no popularity at the grassroots level of the party. If Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu is even passing, nobody in the NPP would recognise him”, he added.

Ernest Owusu-Bempah’s comments come after Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu subtly fired Kennedy Agyapong, a NPP flagbearer hopeful.

According to Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, NPP members must not be deceived by fancy talkers.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on July 21, 2025, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu stated, “Action speaks louder than words… Don’t be deceived by fancy talkers”.

When asked whether his remarks were directed at Kennedy Agyapong, he stated, “I have not said so. I’m just playing back the music of Jimmy Cliff to us.”

He added, If you are talking about the grassroots, I am a grassroots man. I started this party in 1992. I represent the grassroots as well. If I were disconnected from my grassroots at Suame, I could not have on seven consecutive occasions be their representative. I am a grassroots person”.

Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, however, acknowledged that Ken Agyapong might possess a connection with the grassroots.

He added, “I don’t dispute the fact that he may also have his own connection with the grassroots. After all, he also contested six times. When he left, he surrendered the seat to the NDC; when I left, I maintained the seat for the NPP.

“So, in terms of grassroots connection, don’t let us overhype our strength. Don’t let anybody over-exaggerate his strength,” he said.
