The mother of Sergeant Ernest Addo-Mensah has opened up about her son’s tragic death in the helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.
According to the Mother of Sergeant Ernest Addo-Mensah, her son only spent one week with his wife after their marriage.
Sergeant Addo’s mother also revealed that her son also secured a US visa and was planning to quit the army and travel.
He further added that his son knew God and is hopeful that he will be in the bosom of the Almighty.
Speaking in an interview, Sergeant Ernest Addo-Mensah’s mother disclosed, “My son only spent one week with his wife after their wedding ceremony, and he left for work. When he was leaving, his wife, who is a teacher, kept weeping. We could not tell why she was weeping.
We only thought that because it is a new marriage, she would miss her husband, which is the reason why she was weeping.
He did not see her until we were told that he had died on August 6, 2025,” Sergeant Ernest Addo-Mensah’s mother added.
Ernest Addo-Mensah was among the crew members who died alongside Dr Omane Boamah and Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed following a helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6.
The helicopter was carrying eight individuals, including three crew members and five passengers, among them the ministers, a presidential staffer identified as Samuel Sarpong, and the ministers’ security detail.
Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, and Samuel Aboagye, a former Parliamentary Candidate, and Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of NDC, have all been confirmed dead.
The crew members are Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has announced that a State funeral will be held on August 15 for the victims of the helicopter crash.
