Deputy Minister for Defence, Brogya Genfi, has announced that the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has commenced investigations and is working with foreign experts to ensure a thorough and transparent probe.
Brogya Genfi made this known when the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs visited the Ministry of Defence on Wednesday, August 13.
According the Brogya Genfi, the probe will be transparent and Ghanaians will know exactly what happened in the Helicopter crash.
Speaking to the Accra Regional House of Chiefs, Brogya Genfi stated, “We also want to assure you that the Ghana Armed Forces has already begun investigations into the incident. We have requested international collaboration and have received a positive response.
“And so we want to assure you, our Chiefs, that nothing will be covered; it will be transparent, and the public will know exactly what happened in the course of this tragic accident,” he said.
He further cautioned the media and analysts from churning out misinformation and untruths.
The deputy minister added, “We also want to caution the media and some analysts who have been churning out misinformation and untruths about this whole incident. All I want to say is that Ghanaians should trust that the Ministry and the Ghana Armed Forces will be diligent in the investigations and transparent about it.
“Whatever was the cause will be made known to the people of Ghana, and we will take some lessons from that. I don’t want to say anything beyond that.”
“Our minister was so fantastic. Even in the short period that he served at the Ministry, there are many people who have good stories to tell about him. We know the aggressive strategy that he undertook to retool the Ghana Armed Forces. Unfortunately for us, he didn’t live to see the fruits of that strategic step,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has urged the media to exercise restraint and accuracy in their commentary on the recent Air Force Z-9 helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region.
GAF is calling on media practitioners, commentators, bloggers, and content creators not to draw conclusions based on opinion, perceptions.
According to GAF, premature conclusions risk misleading the public, but also deepen the pain of the bereaved families.
Captain VA Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, in a statement wrote, “For the sake of the bereaved families and loved ones, the Armed Forces urge media practitioners, panelists, social commentators, bloggers, and content creators to be circumspect in their reportage as a way of according respect to the memories of the fallen heroes and to mitigate the sorrows of the bereaved families”.
“At this point in time, any purported conclusions based on opinion, perceptions, and conjectures will be premature and misleading. The public is therefore advised to be wary of such reportage,” the statement emphasised.
The statement concluded, “May the souls of our patriots continue to rest in peace”.
In addition, President John Dramani Mahama had already announced that the Ghana Armed Forces has initiated a full-scale investigation into the tragic helicopter crash.
According to John Mahama, an investigative Board of Inquiry has been set up to lead the full-scale investigations.
Addressing the nation on August 7, 2025, John Mahama stated, “As we mourn, questions about the cause of this tragedy are natural and important. I want to assure the families and the nation that the Ghana Armed Forces has initiated a full and transparent investigation into the circumstances of this crash.
An Investigative Board of Inquiry has been set up to determine the cause of the crash. The flight data and cockpit voice recorders have been retrieved. All eight bodies of our departed comrades have been recovered, and the government is in close touch with the bereaved families regarding the identification of the bodies and their final interment.”
He added, “In this moment of national grief, let us remember that we are, above all, Ghanaians, united not just by nationality but by shared hope, shared humanity and now shared sorrow. Let us set aside our differences and offer our collective compassion to the bereaved families.
