NewsCourt ‘throws out’ K.T. Hammond's election petition, fines him ¢60k for time-wasting

The Obuasi High Court has thrown out the election petition filed by the former Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, Kobina Tahiru Hammond, challenging the 2024 parliamentary victory of Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani.

On Tuesday, August 19, 2025, the court imposed a fine of ¢60,000 on K. T. Hammond for wasting their time with his petition.

The case was presided over by Justice Kwabena Twumasi.

K.T. Hammond lost the Adansi Asokwa seat to Dorani by 954 votes and filed a case against Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani after he was not pleased with the outcome of the election.

The former Trade and Industry Minister, Kobina Tahiru Hammond, shockingly, on three occasions failed to appear before the court.

The court on August 19, 2025, proceeded with its ruling.

Richard Andy, the lawyer for the incumbent MP, speaking to some journalists, revealed that K.T. Hammond had no legal basis.

Meanwhile, Kobina Tahir Hammond, after his election defeat, expressed deep concerns about his constituents.

K.T. Hammond recounted that his constituents on the voting day wanted money from him before they went and cast their votes.

Speaking on Adom TV, KT Hammond expressed his unhappiness with the voters in his constituency. He detailed, “The places where cars could not go, I was walking there, even places during my youth days where I was not going this time, I walked there and made sure we covered everywhere”.

“The day came for us to vote people were just standing there, they were saying they would not vote because they wanted money, I was like look at your Astroturf, look at your schools, look at your water, look at your roads, what will even make you cry is that one place that we created a road for the chief and the people that area they did not even vote”, he added.

KT Hammond further added, “There are so many sad things, if we voted and the NDC beat me comprehensively I would be like KT and they have beaten me like that, 2020 they got like 13,000 and we hit 18,000 so you expect that if they beat me the numbers should be added to theirs for it to be 19,000, the NDC still had their 14,000, our 18,000 dropped to 13,000, the NPP did not vote”.

“I have heard most of my colleagues have lost their seats as well, the NDC did not beat us, the NPP supporters decided not to vote, so they should take it”, he emphasised.

In a separate interview, K.T. Hammond accused his constituents of deception.

According to him, during the campaign period, when he visited some communities, his constituents promised to vote for him massively, but it turned out to be false.

He stated, “In certain places I went to and what I knew of the places, in fact, they were places that I had done so much that when I went round campaigning, they said that, I now think that there was an irony in what they said. They said, “We will vote for you as a thank you. God bless you, we will vote to say thank you. And they didn’t vote”.

KT Hammond lost to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi-Dorani.

The NDC candidate secured 14,229 of the valid votes cast while KT Hammond secured 13,275 votes.
