“I am not completely in retirement” – K. T. Hammond

News“I am not completely in retirement” – K. T. Hammond

K. T. Hammond, the former Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, has said he is not completely in retirement after losing his 2024 parliamentary seat.

The former lawmaker indicated a possible return to contest the constituency’s parliamentary seat in the 2028 elections.

According to K.T. Hammond, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) won the Adansi Asokwa seat by default.

Speaking to the media, Kobina Tahiru Hammond stated, “I am not completely in retirement. I had to return to my law books to sharpen a few things. But I am not in retirement, if that is what you think. In any event, as I said, watch this space”.

K.T. Hammond further claimed the 2024 parliamentary election in Adansi Asokwa was filled with irregularities.

He explained, “Those boxes, what were they doing at Lomito Clinic? Is that where we voted? You heard it in the script when he was telling me that I was complaining about some of my pink sheets. Just have a look at them.

“They had tippers, inks, and other things on them; it was crazy. There was a lot of mess attributed to this Adansi Asokwa election, and it was beyond description. I felt I had to contain myself,” he recounted.

Kobina Tahiru Hammond further touched on the Obuasi High Court’s fine against him.

According to K.T. Hammond, he will appeal the court’s fine of ¢60,000 after his election petition case was dismissed.

On Tuesday, August 19, 2025, the court imposed a fine of ¢60,000 on K. T. Hammond for wasting their time with his petition.

The case was presided over by Justice Kwabena Twumasi.

K.T. Hammond lost the Adansi Asokwa seat to Dorani by 954 votes and filed a case against Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani after he was not pleased with the outcome of the election.

The former Trade and Industry Minister, Kobina Tahiru Hammond, shockingly, on three occasions failed to appear before the court.

The court on August 19, 2025, proceeded with its ruling.

Richard Andy, the lawyer for the incumbent MP, speaking to some journalists, revealed that K.T. Hammond had no legal basis.

K.T. Hammond added, “I am told that the Judge awarded 60,000 cedis, or so I am appealing, and this time I am appealing in my own right. I will put my own signature. I am appealing as the appellant in person; I am not going to go through a lawyer. The cost of 60,000 is completely unfair.

“I’m not too upset with the judge. There was some mix-up; there was no attendance by the lawyers, I’m told. You can understand. We filed a petition, a few things went wrong,” he said.

He further claimed the NDC won the 2024 election by default.

“The NDC won the Asokwa election by default. For whatever reason, we, the NPP, decided to hand over power on a silver platter. He didn’t win,” he added.

KT Hammond further provided reasons for his failure to appear before the court three consecutive times.

“He [lawyer] talked about me not filing the suit myself, but it was filed in my name. He made a scandalous suggestion that I ask someone [a lawyer] whose name was not even registered on the bar list. I don’t even understand. This is a person who was my classmate, and we left the university and law school same year. He has been in practice for close to 35 to 40 years,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi-Dorani, the member of parliament for Adansi Asokwa Constituency, has said his constituents keep gifting him money, kicking KT Hammond out of Parliament.

The lawmaker stated, “If, by the grace of God, the people of Adansi Asokwa have been liberated from trials and tribulations through me, the insults and all the disgrace should stop, because you people dash me money when I go out. They ask, ‘Are you the one who overthrew KT Hammond?’ When I respond in the affirmative, I am given a token to buy fuel”.

“The substantive issue was not even addressed because he breached all the laws guiding election petitions. By the grace of God, the court has listened to what my lawyers and I said and has dismissed the case. When I get back, many of my constituents will be happy that he has lost again, and many people will be tagging him with all kinds of things that he could have avoided in the first place,” he stated.

KT Hammond lost to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi-Dorani.

Animli Dorgbadzi-Dorani, NDC candidate, secured 14,229 of the valid votes cast while KT Hammond secured 13,275 votes.
