NewsVideo - Wee smokers spotted at NPP’s ‘Yɛn Suro Ahunahuna’ protest

Some wee smokers have been spotted at the New Patriotic Party protest against alleged abuse of power and state-sponsored harassment.

In a viral video shared on X by EDHUB, some of the protesters were shockingly spotted smoking as they danced to the tune of some music at Circle in Accra.

The protesters were mostly captured in black with a red cloth tied around their heads.

The youth wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is on the streets today, Tuesday, September 23, to protest against the John Mahama-led government over what it described as selective justice, intimidation, and abuse of opposition members.

The NPP protest follows the arrest of NPP members, Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, and other NPP members.

According to the NPP, the arrest of several members and sympathisers has been politically influenced by investigations.

The NPP protesters will march to present a petition at the Police Headquarters, before proceeding to the Jubilee House to deliver a final petition to the Office of the President.

Speaking at the NPP’s youth protest against police intimidation on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, Okoe Boye cautioned the Ghana Police Service against being used as a tool by the government.

He stated, “Today they are using the police to intimidate Ghanaians. All we are saying is that the police are our brothers and sisters. It is true that it is politicians that give position to their (sic) but please, this is good advice to the police. Don’t allow a politician to use you to be unprofessional in your behaviour because the politician will not be there forever. Use the training and knowledge you were given in your school so that you will be fair to all Ghanaians”.

“When the NPP got power, we didn’t spend time arresting regional chairmen. We were holding meetings on how to implement free SHS so that our children will go to school. When the NPP got power, we used our time and energy to start the 1 District 1 Factory so that the youth could get jobs.

“What are we seeing in the first months of this NDC government? Any time they realise that the youth are losing hope in them, they will go and arrest one politician, only to incite their base and to excite them,” Okoe Boye decried.

Also, Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), commonly known as Nana B, has quizzed why there are different laws for NPP and different laws for NDC.

Nana B, during the NPP “Yɛn Suro Ahunahuna” protest in Accra, declared the NPP will not be intimidated by what it describes as deliberate attempts by State institutions.

The NPP man cited the arrest of Abronye DC, Sir Obama and Fante Comedy.

He noted that state institutions have not similarly treated NDC members the way they treat NPP members.

Speaking during the “Yɛn Suro Ahunahuna” protest, Nana B stated, “Why do we have different laws for NPP and different laws for NDC? That is what we are protesting against: the weaponisation of State institutions against the opposition. This is deliberate, a clear orchestration against the NPP. We will not be intimidated”.

“You arrest somebody and then impose onerous bail conditions. That is most unfortunate. We are telling the President, who claims to be an embodiment of democracy, to ensure these institutions stop the harassment. We are not going to sit down for our rights to be trampled upon,” he added.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the video stated, “This can not be allowed to last for 72 hours @GhPoliceService, please follow up on this guy and make sure he and others like him engaging in abuse of substances are locked behind bars. Please try to clean the streets of Ghana because our future can never be bright with these people”.

Some Ghanaians reacted to the video saying, “The NPP is trivializing the galamsey fight, and that’s exactly their goal. They want to make sure no one in Ghana takes the fight on Galamsey seriously. This is too important to be left in their hands. They are the last people who should be leading such a fight. Nkwasifuo”.

“This is just the continuation of a cycle, opposition will complain and suggest the best solutions to the country’s problem. They will switch sides, and suddenly they will forget all the brilliant ideas they proposed while in opposition”, another added.

A netizen added, “In the run-up to the by-election for Late John Kumah’s seat, we saw the NPP, not only shearing money, but also allegedly sharing weed to some youth to entice them to vote for NPP. Here again, in this video, the youth are openly smoking weed at an NPP event. Well, I’m just saying”.

Additionally, a netizen alleged, “I saw these junkies lined up and being given cash at Circle early on this morning, and I thought it was some government intervention program being executed. God! See how low we have fallen as a nation”.
