The Zonal Campaign Coordinator for the Bryan Acheampong Campaign, Isaac Asare, commonly known as Akonoba, has claimed all five New Patriotic Party (NPP) aspiring presidential candidates are more competent and capable than current President John Dramani Mahama.
According to Akonoba, any of the five NPP presidential aspirants will do a better job than John Mahama, who is currently in office.
Speaking on the Frontline programme on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM, Akonoba stated, “Let me state unequivocally that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr Yaw Adutwum, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong and Dr Bryan Acheampong are all qualified, more competent and far better than the current President, John Dramani Mahama.
‘Let’s establish that fact today. When you examine the situation critically, you must be truthful and acknowledge that they are all far superior,” he added.
Akonoba described Dr Bryan Acheampong as the most suitable choice to lead the NPP to victory in 2028.
According to him, Dr Bryan Acheampong embodies the most strategic and advantageous choice.
He, however, acknowledged that all five aspirants are qualified to lead the party.
Akonoba further touched on the NPP’s 2024 election defeat, describing it as humiliating and unprecedented.
He added, “In the history of this country, the NPP has never suffered such a humiliating defeat. I choose my words carefully; we have never witnessed this level of loss before”.
“Let us also tell Dr Mahamudu Bawumia that when the results are weak, the analysis will expose the underlying issues that caused our defeat.
Our party is now at the crossroads. The NPP is no longer attractive. Indiscipline was at a record high, and the party has lost its appeal among the youth of Ghana”, he stated.
Akonoba added, “Our support base used to come from the business community and university campuses, but today, they have abandoned us. They are now shifting towards the NDC. We also lost miserably in the Zongo communities. Therefore, we need a candidate who can mobilise and win back our core support bases so we can secure victory in 2028.”
“Electing Dr Bryan Acheampong as our candidate is a strategic imperative for victory,” he stated.
In related NPP news, the 3rd Vice Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Masawudu Osman, has claimed former President Akufo-Addo’s appointees hated him and caused his downfall.
According to Alhaji Masawudu Osman, Akufo-Addo’s lack of reshuffling in his government was not the problem.
Alhaji Masawudu Osman added that the God of Akufo-Addo will judge appointees who caused his downfall.
Speaking in an interview on Sompa TV, “I had the mentality that human beings are bad and there was no way reshuffling in Akufo-Addo’s government could have made any better impact”.
“When we were elected as national officers… those that Akufo-Addo gave them better appointment, like at COCOBOD or as CEO of any company, you shouldn’t expect Akufo-Addo to come and tell you to support the party members who fought to bring the NPP to power”, he added.
He highlighted that Akufo-Addo appointees abandoned the party’s grassroots members after their appointments.
“For me, I see that many of the people Akufo-Addo appointed were his enemies; they hated him…and the God of Akufo-Addo will judge such people for causing his downfall.
I picked up intelligence that the CEO of the Minerals Commission was against us. Everything we did, he allegedly reported to the NDC. But when we informed Akufo-Addo, he trusted him so much that he did not act”, he claimed.
