“Ato Forson will defeat Dr Bawumia if he contests” – Prof Enoch Opoku Antwi

News“Ato Forson will defeat Dr Bawumia if he contests” – Prof Enoch Opoku Antwi

Professor Enoch Opoku Antwi, a governance expert and policy analyst, has said it will be difficult for the opposition New Patriotic Party(NPP) to win the 2028 election.

According to Professor Enoch Opoku Antwi, the finance minister, Dr Ato Forson, if he contests the 2028 general election, will win the NPP’s Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

He noted that Ato Forson’s economy is far better than the economy Dr Bawumia, as the leader of the economic management team under former president Akufo-Addo delivered.

Speaking on the TV3 New Day show on August 29, 2025, Professor Enoch Opoku Antwi stated, “Bawumia, it is going to be difficult for him to win. I believe that even Ato Forson, when he contests Bawumia, we win because if you compare Ato Forson’s economy now to when Bawumia was the leader of the economic management team and what happened there and the cedi and the dollar inflation rate, definitely on that level of economics, even Ato Forson will beat Bawumia.

So, the NPP has a lot of work to do; they will do everything to bring Bawumia, but I am not buying into the fact that he will win in 2028 and that will sway into the NDC to the candidate they will bring”.

He added, “I pray that the NDC will have a succession plan to get somebody to be groomed so that person will take over. I have also seen a lot of dynamics being played here.

I like the words of the Chairman General who says that anybody who bring their head that they are going to run will be a destruction, let all support, so that is collective success which is more important the group success is more important than individual success, and that is the approach that the NDC has taken.

If John Mahama is successful, anybody that the NDC bring will be easy for that person, and that is a good strategy”, Professor Enoch Opoku Antwi added.

However, Kofi Bentil, the vice president of IMANI Africa, has said Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will be the strongest candidate in the 2028 election.

The IMANI vice president noted that Dr Bawumia, despite the deep anger and disaffection from all sides, managed to secure 41% of the votes cast in the 2024 election.

In a Facebook post, Kofi Bentil wrote, “It’s actually interesting to realise that despite the deep anger and disaffection from all sides, including NPP members not voting, DMB got 41%. I have no doubt he will be the strongest candidate in the next election. #Bawumia2028“.

Meanwhile,  Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reiterated that whoever succeeds President John Dramani Mahama as NDC flagbearer will ride on the achievements of the current government.

Asiedu Nketia called for calm and urged persons interested in contesting for the NDC flagbearer to be very careful about the way they express their ambitions.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face on Tuesday, August 26, Asiedu Nketia detailed, “The party has not declared anything,” he noted. “I keep repeating my caution that we have to be very careful about the way we express our ambitions. Whoever succeeds President Mahama will ride on the achievements of the current government.”

He added, “If you conduct yourself in ways that will disrupt the activities of this government in ways that will make the government less successful, then you have a bigger problem,” he said. “President Mahama is only about eight months in office now, and you want to struggle to decide who will replace him—you know what it can cause.”

“If all of us decide today that, ‘Well, people say I can be president, so let me start organising,’ then everybody will be going across the country appointing campaign coordinators. How do you think that President Mahama can focus on achieving anything?”
