A new poll released by Global Info Analytics on August 21, 2025, shows the former Vice President and NPP presidential candidate for the 2024 Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, is the leading candidate ahead of the party’s primaries in January 2026.

The Global Info Analytics shows Dr Mahamudu Bawumia running away with a commanding 52% lead, with his closest contender, Kennedy Agyapong, the former Assin Central MP, with 17%.

Dr Bryan Acheampong polled 3%, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the former Education Minister, polled 1%.

Kwabena Agyapong, former General Secretary, Boakye Agyarko, and Addai Nimo all polling less than 1%.

However, 10% of delegates remain undecided, with 9% declining to disclose their choice.

According to the Global Info Analytics, the poll surveyed 2,656 NPP delegates, with 2,560 completing all responses across 263 of the 276 constituencies.

Meanwhile, in the NPP’s 2024 presidential primaries, Kennedy Agyapong finished second in the Super Delegates Conference with 14.30% of the vote, behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who secured 61.47% emerging the winner.

The NPP 2026 primaries are heating up with the main front-runners for the NPP’s flagbearer position, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Minister for Agriculture Bryan Acheampong, and former Minister for Education Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum.

Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Boakye Agyarko, and Addai Nimo have also declared their intention to contest.

Also, it has been revealed that close to 490 youth organisers and deputy youth organisers with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have contributed to picking up nomination forms for former flagbearer and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to contest in 2028.

This is according to David Boakye, Bono East Regional Secretary of the NPP. Mr. Boakye made this disclosure to Oheneba Nana Asiedu on Wontumi FM.

Mr. Boakye said the youth organisers and their deputies across the country approached Samira Bawumia, wife of Dr. Bawumia, right before the recently held National Delegates Conference at the University of Ghana in Accra.

“490 out of the 546 youth organisers and their deputies in Ghana have collectively contributed money to support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential candidacy for the upcoming election. They met Hajia Samira, Sammi Awuku, Dr. Gideon Boako, and Ekwow Vincent a day before the delegates conference with the proposal,” David Boakye said.

He added that the youth, together with their deputies, have already sent some selected representatives to meet Dr. Bawumia and assure him of their decision, adding that they will pick up the nomination forms for Dr. Bawumia come Wednesday, August 12, 2025.

Meanwhile, a group of 220 former MMDCEs who served under the immediate past Akufo-Addo government, on June 23, 2025, officially declared their endorsement of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections.

Dr. Bawumia held an open interaction with the MMDCEs in Accra two months ago as part of his stakeholder consultations. Following the meeting, the former MMDCEs held a press conference to declare their absolute confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s leadership and endorsed his candidature for the 2028 elections.

In addition, Kennedy Agyapong, a former Assin Central lawmaker and NPP presidential aspirant hopeful, has said the New Patriotic Party has a fighting chance in the 2028 elections if the party chooses him as the flagbearer.

According to Kennedy Agyapong, he is the NPP’s best bet to win the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He boldly emphasised that he is going to beat the NDC hands down if voted as the NPP presidential candidate.

Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Pan African Television, Kennedy Agyapong stated, “The party has a fighting chance, but it depends on the candidate they choose. If they choose Kennedy Agyapong, they have a fighting chance; I will beat NDC hands down”.
