The Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for the suspect who assaulted one of their Officer at Garu in the Upper East Region.

According to reports, the Police officer was assaulted on 6th October 2025 when the officer and Community Protection Assistants (CPAs) were conducting stop-and-search operations along the Garu–Nakpanduri road.

The Police intercepted a tricycle loaded with sacks of groundnuts with some passengers sitting on top.

The Ghana Police statement read, “The Upper East Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into an incident in which a police officer was assaulted by a commercial tricycle rider at Garu in the Upper East Region.

The incident occurred on 6th October 2025, when the officer and Community Protection Assistants (CPAs) were conducting stop-and-search operations along the Garu-Nakpanduri road”.

The statement added, “The team intercepted a tricycle loaded with sacks of groundnuts and passengers sitting on top. When the officer instructed the rider to stop and park properly for inspection, he became aggressive and attacked the officer. The suspect then fled the scene on his tricycle.

Efforts are underway to arrest the tricycle rider and ensure he faces the full rigours of the law”.

Meanwhile, some Ghanaians have reacted to the Police statement saying, “So now they’re turning Garu into “Grand Theft Auto”? 🤦🏽‍♂️ You can’t assault an officer and think you’ll just vanish  @GhPoliceService will find you before your next meal cools down”.

He added, “This gentleman here has to be arrested and brought to justice!! He has no right to assault an officer 👮!! Is it because the officers are too lenient to us that’s why all these things do happen??”.

“This is happening because you guys sold your respect for money. If you want civilians to respect you, then change your behaviour”, another netizen added.

One more netizen advised the Police, “Garu tempane should have more police presence, and a command station should be set up in tempane”.

Additionally, a netizen added, “Great work! These things are becoming far too common on the streets. Find him, bring him to justice and lock him up next time he’ll learn sense”.

Furthermore, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), has issued a bold statement to criminals operating in Ghana.

According to COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, no matter how far or long they run, the police will eventually catch up with them.

Speaking during a press briefing at the National Police Headquarters in Accra on Wednesday, September 24, COP Donkor stated, “To the criminals out there, always remember that you may run and hide, but we will surely get you arrested to face the full rigours of the law. We are coming for you”.

“We wish to assure the good people of Ghana that the Police Service will continue to work around the clock to ensure security, law, and order at all times,” she added.

She further added, “As always, we call on all our stakeholders and the general public to continue to support the police, report suspicious activities, and share credible information with the police”.
