The government, through the Ministry of Health, has announced a 50% reduction in admission fees for first-year students enrolling in Nursing and Allied Health Training Institutions for the 2025/2026 academic year.

The Mahama government’s slashing of the Nursing trainee admission fees by 50% is part of the government’s new “No-Fee-Stress” policy.

According to the government, the  “No-Fee-Stress” policy, a national initiative aimed at easing the financial burden on tertiary students and their families.

The Ministry of Health revealed the government has absorbed about half of the approved fees for all eligible students beginning their training this academic year.

Deputy Director and Ministry spokesperson Tony Goodman, the Ministry, in a press statement, stated, “This reduction fulfills the commitment of His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, to provide financial relief for parents and students who are determined to pursue their academic and professional dreams,”

The statement added, “By this initiative, the Government has absorbed about half of the approved fees for all first-year students enrolled in Nursing and Allied Health Training Institutions.

All institutions are strictly required to adhere to the approved fees and items as communicated by the Ministry”.

The ministry warned that any principals who fail to comply with this directive “do so at their own peril.

The Health Ministry further reiterated its commitment to ensuring equitable access to health training education.

Meanwhile,  Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF), Dr Saajida Shiraz, has disclosed that nearly 50,000 first-year students in public tertiary institutions across the country have been validated for reimbursement under the government’s No Fees Stress policy.

Speaking during the policy launch of the policy in Koforidua on Friday, July 4, 2025, she stated, “A total of 148,429 students have accessed the portal, with 124,338 completing their applications. We have also received enrollment data for 135,255 students from public tertiary institutions via our tertiary institutions portal. We expect more updates, but so far, we have validated 49,956 students for reimbursements”.

Also, Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, in a post on X, disclosed that about 15,000 students have so far received disbursements under the government’s No Fees Stress policy.

“No Fees Stress Update. About 15,000 students have received disbursements under the policy. Remaining students will receive payments shortly after verification. President Mahama will officially launch the policy tomorrow at Koforidua,” he wrote.

The Ministry of Health wishes to inform the general public and all stakeholders that, effective the 2025/2026 academic year, school fees for Nursing and Allied Health Training students have been reduced by 50%.

This intervention has been made possible through the introduction of Government’s flagship “No- No-Fee-Stress” Policy for tertiary students across the country.

By this initiative, Government has absorbed about half of the approved fees for all first-year students enrolled in Nursing and Allied Health Training Institutions.

All institutions are strictly required to adhere to the approved fees and items as communicated by the Ministry.

No institution is permitted to charge above the approved amount or demand payment for item covered under the policy:

This reduction fulfils the commitment of His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, to provide financial relief for parents and students who are determined to pursue their academic and professional dreams.

The Ministry of Health hereby advises Principals of Health Training Institutions to comply fully with this directive. Any Principal who contravenes this directive or imposes unauthorised fees does so at his or her own peril.

The Ministry remains committed to safeguarding the welfare of students and advancing equitable access to health training education.

By this notice, Heads of Health Training Institutions are directed to commence the necessary processes leading to the admission of students for the 2025/2026 academic year.
