The CEO of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, DVLA, Mr Julius Neequaye Kotey, has revealed how a close friend of a former Transport Minister, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, rented out Ayalolo offices to private individuals and pocketed the money.
The DVLA CEO revealed that the former minister’s friend identified us as Mr Nana Bugyei, who rented the Ayalolo BRT Bus Terminals in Adenta and Tudu.
Mr Julius Neequaye Kotey has vowed to pursue the prosecution of the manager of the Ayalolo BRT Bus Terminals in Adenta and Tudu, Mr Nana Bugyei, over alleged misappropriation of funds and embezzlement.
Speaking on Accra FM, Mr Julius Neequaye Kotey detailed, “I know some of them; the auditing will reveal it, and I will prosecute you before sacking you. You are not going to go scot-free; you have taken money you don’t deserve.
In their eight years, they opened only four branches, we are in eight months, next month I am adding two branches, we have opened six”.
He added, “When we got to Adenta in February with my Minister, we met a man calling himself Nana Bugyei, who said he is a close friend of Asiamah, the former transport minister. The man got a letter to manage, Ayalolo BRT Bus Terminals in Adenta, and he was renting and misappropriating the money.
As of now, we cannot trace Nana Bugyei; he cannot give us the account he was putting that money in, but was renting to private individuals and pocketing the money. When we got there, it was not easy. I told him I was going to get him arrested. He has created the same office at the Kinbu Office, Ayalolo office, and he has rented all the down, and the money cannot be found at the Ministry of Transport”.
The DVLA CEO further revealed that the Ayalolo office in Adenta has been renovated as a DVLA office, which is running 24 hours and has 15 million cedis in revenue for Ghana between May and now.
“I have evicted them, and we did renovation. Today, the Adenta office is doing 24-hour service for the DVLA. From May to now, we have made an access of 15 million cedis revenue for Ghana.
It is good that Ghanaians voted for change; we are not going to disappoint John Mahama. I always say a good name is better than riches, and there is one thing I am praying to God to let me achieve”, he detailed,
Mr Julius Neequaye Kotey further announced that Ghana will be embossing its own number plates.
According to him, Ghana, as a country, does not have any data on registered cars.
The DVLA CEO added, “No country in this world allows individuals to emboss number plates; that thing will change. Ghana will emboss its own number plates. They should stop calling me. We went to Nigeria, you cannot go to the roadside and go and emboss number plates and put them on a car.
Ghana go to 37, just pass by the roadside, they are there, I am not going to arrest them because it is not their fault. They are working for three people, and those people have 154 companies. Ghana must emboss its own number plates; that is the only way we can strengthen our security and stop the smuggling of cars”.
“The cars on the roads have no data. Ask EOCO how many times they come to us, and we tell them we have no data on them; that is why we are changing number plates, the one coming is scannerable. I scan, and I have instant information. EOCO will have the machines, Ghana Police will have machines, National Security will have machines, and the DVLA company officers will have a machine”, he boldly detailed.
