“Who will we call in the middle of the night?” – Omane Boamah’s children mourn

News“Who will we call in the middle of the night?” - Omane Boamah’s children mourn

The children of the late Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, delivered a deeply moving tribute to their late father on Thursday, August 14, at the Christ the King Parish in Accra.

Omane Boamah’s children, in their tribute, describe their late father as irreplaceable, whose love was steady and gentle.

Speaking through emotions, they stated, “Daddy, why did you leave us so soon? Never in a million years would we have imagined this,” they said, their voices trembling. “Who will we call in the middle of the night when we have questions? Who will have the answers? You are irreplaceable, Edwardo.”

“Your love was steady, your love was gentle, and it was the warmth that filled our home,” they recalled.

“Dream big but stay grounded.” To him, success was never about personal glory but about the lives touched. “You showed us that compassion is strength, truth is a duty, and service to others is the greatest legacy one can leave,” they shared.

“You called us every day when you travelled. You never missed our special moments. You taught us to dream big but stay grounded. You showed us that compassion is strength, but speaking the truth is an obligation, and that service to others is the greatest legacy one can leave,” they added.

Ghana lost eight people, including Dr Omane Boamah and Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, two cabinet members who passed away following a helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6.

The helicopter was carrying eight individuals, including three crew members and five passengers, among them the ministers, a presidential staffer identified as Samuel Sarpong, and the ministers’ security detail.

Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, and Samuel Aboagye, a former Parliamentary Candidate, and Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of NDC, have all been confirmed dead.

The crew members are Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

In addition, the son of late National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chairman, Samuel Sarpong Jr, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to eradicate illegal mining popularly known as galamsey.

According to Samuel Sarpong Jnr, his father, Dr Samuel Sarpong, never liked galamsey.

Samuel Sarpong Jnr made this appeal on Wednesday, August 13, when he laid flowers in honour of his late father and seven others who died in the Adansi helicopter crash.

Sarpong Jnr expressed sadness over the loss of his father but stated he hoped his father’s vision for Ghana would be realised.

Also, President John Mahama has revealed plans to create a dedicated fund for the eight victims in the tragic August 6 helicopter crash.

According to John Mahama, all those who died were at the prime of their lives and had so many responsibilities.

Speaking during an address on Tuesday, August 12, John Mahama stated, “It’s a difficult calamity. Because if you look at all those who died, they were at the prime of their lives and had so much responsibility, children still in school, and some even with infants as young as two months… These responsibilities are what we have to take up to make sure that the absence of the parents does not adversely affect the innocent children.”

“At the funeral, we will announce a programme for creating a fund that will assist with the education of their children,” he said.

He added, “Persons who want to contribute to the future of the children they’ve left behind would have the opportunity to do so”.

Meanwhile, a state funeral will be held for Ghana’s eight fallen heroes today, Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Black Star Square in Accra.
