Legal expert Kwadwo Ofori Dankwah has warned that the Ghanaian dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, could face a prison sentence over the Lamborghini Urus.
According to him, under the Criminal Act 29, if one is found receiving stolen items, the suspect could face a similar punishment as the person who committed the theft.
Speaking in an interview with Nana Romeo, Lawyer Kwadwo Ofori Dankwah detailed, “Under the Criminal Act 29, sections 146, 147, and 148 address the issues of possession of stolen property, receiving stolen goods dishonestly, and dishonestly possessing stolen items. The law states that if you are found guilty of any of these offenses, the penalties can be similar to those faced by the person who actually committed the theft.
“For instance, if someone steals a car and another person buys it knowing it was obtained illegally, both could face similar prison sentences. In this context, Shatta Wale could potentially be brought before the criminal court for charges related to dishonestly receiving and possessing stolen property, along with additional issues related to tax evasion,” a legal expert explained.
He further added that Ghana risk a travel ban if an influential person tries to get these charges dismissed.
“I do not think that any influential individual would try to intervene to dismiss these charges easily. If someone attempts to do so, there is a risk of a travel ban being imposed, which would restrict them to staying only in Ghana,” he said.
Meanwhile, Shatta Wale, has performed a spiritual bath following his release from Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) custody.
Shatta Wale’s spiritual cleansing was led by Teshie Gbuglah Mantse, Original Nii Martey Laryea I.
The spiritual cleansing is believed to get rid of any negative energy or spiritual burden following his recent legal issues.
Shatta Wale was released from EOCO custody on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
Shatta Wale was released after fulfilling revised bail conditions.
His earlier bail condition was set at GHC10 million bail with two sureties.
Cephas Boyuo, Shatta Wale’s lawyer, confirmed that the bail amount of GH₵10 million has been reduced to GH₵5 million with two sureties.
As part of the bail conditions, Shatta Wale is expected to report to EOCO three times a week.
Shatta Wale, upon returning home in a live video, stated, “I want to say thank you to my management team… Everybody has been supportive with this, and to you, the fans, I owe you a beautiful concert one of these days because you guys have been supportive”.
“I heard some of you came there from morning, and you didn’t want to leave, but as you have seen my video, you should know Shatta is safe, your king is safe, One Don is safe. I am home now, and I want to say a big thank you for supporting me, for being around me in times like this, because I needed you guys the most. You guys are the ones that hold me down,” he added.
Shatta Wale further thanked the staff of EOCO for their professionalism.
He added, “To all the staff of EOCO, you guys have been wonderful. At least I came there, you guys really took me through the rightful processes that were needed and I just want to say God bless you”
“To Mr. Raymond Archer, I just want to tell you I thank you so much for your understanding. I thank you so much for cooperating.”
Meanwhile, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has announced that Ghanaian Dancehall musician Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, does not have any documentation to prove ownership of the Lamborghini Urus.
EOCO also revealed the artist has failed to identify who he purchased the Lamborghini Urus from.
According to EOCO, Shatta Wale’s documents in his possession show the Lamborghini Urus is in the name of Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is currently in jail.
In a statement released by EOCO on Thursday August 21, 2025 stated, “So far, Charles Nii Armah Mensah has been unable to identify the person from whom he purchased the said Lamborghini Urus except to say that he bought it from the “street” and from someone possibly called “ZAK,” who may have contacted him on WhatsApp but whose identity he does not know and whose contact he has thrown away.
So far, Charles Nii Armah Mensah also does not possess any documentation in terms of receipt or transfer documents which show that he owns or purchased the said vehicle, except a customs declaration document in his possession bearing the name of Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is currently in jail”, he added.
The EOCO statement also revealed that the 2019 Lamborghini Urus has been identified by the FBI and the US Justice Department as proceeds of a $14 million crime involving one Nana Kwabena Amuah.
However, Shatta Wale had previously, in a TikTok live session, claimed he bought his luxury Lamborghini Urus $150,000.
Shatta Wale stated, “I bought the Lamborghini for $150,000 and didn’t know it was from Adu Boahene. I’m leaving the car for you people, don’t come to my house, and let nobody invite me.”
“Raymond Archer, I will leave the car for you people. Don’t come to my house. Don’t let anybody invite me. That’s why I have bought a new Lamborghini,” he fumed.
